Both women and men have turned to plastic surgery over the ages for a variety of reasons. Some opt for surgery for purely aesthetic reasons, while others undergo treatment to reduce deformities that have resulted from an accident. But while the stigma surrounding plastic surgery has dwindled over time, many individuals are still afraid to come clean about their procedures.
We see this trend most frequently in Hollywood, when Tinseltown’s elite try to pass off flawless skin, a perfect figure, and highly defined muscles as a natural blessing. While many of us are endowed with stunning figures naturally and never suffer from the natural signs of aging, it’s safe to say that out of a group of 10 “perfect” looking individuals, at least 30 percent attribute their good looks to the skills of their plastic surgeon.
With some, a trained plastic surgeon can tell just by looking at before and after pictures where some form of cosmetic enhancement has been made. However, there are times when discerning the difference between someone’s natural features and cosmetically enhanced features is a bit more difficult.
Take Valeria Lukyanova, for instance. Better known as the “Human Barbie,” Lukyanova opened up about what treatments she has had, but while her strange appearance seems unnatural, the young Ukrainian with wide doll eyes and a too-good-to-be-true waist insists the only surgery she’s had is breast enhancement.
“Everyone wants a slim figure. Everyone gets breasts done. Everyone fixes up their face if it’s not ideal, you know? Everyone strives for the golden mean. It’s global now,” Lukyanova told GQ magazine.
But while getting some enhancements is nothing out of the ordinary, upon first glance at Lukyanova, it’s hard to believe she’s not just a live-size figurine. And following her interview, it seems Lukyanova actually prefers and aspires to resemble the famous plastic doll.
The Human Barbie confessed to GQ that she was on an all-juice diet at one point, consuming only vegetable juice to slim down. She also admitted that she doesn’t intend on having any children and prefers the non-family lifestyle.
But how does “Ken” feel about this?
Recently, Lukyanova traveled to the U.S. to meet the “Human Ken,” Justin Jedlica, who has been far more open about his plastic surgery endeavors. Will Barbie make a move on her figurine-inspired male counterpart?
According to Lukyanova, she has no plans for moving to the U.S., but after receiving what she calls an unpleasant reaction to her looks, Lukyanova admits she’s ready to leave Ukraine. Given her unnatural appearance, it’s doubtful she will not receive just as many stares wherever else she plans to travel to.
Any experienced plastic surgeon knows that the secret to ensuring successful results is to attain as natural a look as possible. With Lukyanova, natural seems to be far from what she wants. Though some may admire her appearance, others may be taken aback by the frigidity of her looks.
But as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
