Facelift is a surgical procedure that removes excess facial skin to make the face appear younger. However, the aging face does not only lose skin elasticity and develops looser skin, but also loses much facial fat and the muscle of the face become stiffer and shorter. Additional procedures that may be necessary to achieve the best results include: neck lift, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), neck liposuction, Autologous fat Transfer, forehead lift, brow lifting, chemical or laser peel, cheek augmentation, chin augmentation or reduction.
How is a facelift performed?
A traditional facelift procedure is performed through an incision starting in the hairline above and in front of the ear. The incision runs downward in front or inside of the ear, comes under the ear and then upward behind the ear ending in the hairline behind the ear. The skin is lifted off the underlying muscle. The underlying muscle and fascia can be tightened with stitches if it is necessary. The skin is pulled back and upward and the excess skin is removed. The skin is approximated with sutures and skin staples in the hairline. Bandage wrap is applied.
In Dr. Grossman’s opinion face lifting should be performed only in individuals who have lost significant amount of weight or individuals with very poor skin tone. This group of patients will require excess skin removal in the face and neck. This results in a tighter appearance of the face and neck area. For the best possible results patients must have a combined procedure of a Face Lifting and Fat Grafting (Fat Transfer) so that the patients can look as good as when they were much younger. Face lifts alone do not make patients look like themselves, even though they might look tighter.
People DO NOT grow more skin as they get older, not in the face and NOT in the eyelids, it is the loss of facial volume that creates the appearance of extra skin. In healthy and active individuals who have maintained stable weight throughout life, Dr. Grossman recommends Fat Grafting alone, since it is the only way to make the person look like themselves at a much younger age or better, in addition all the risks of the face lift are avoided.
Dr. Grossman pioneered and perfected facial rejuvenation surgery primarily though Fat Grafting Technique since 1993, which has allowed him to create much younger looking patients with permanent and natural looking results, without the risks of a face lift or the scars associated with extensive facial surgery.
Our patients can generally go out in to the real world the day after facial rejuvenation without the scars or bruising.
Ever since 1993 Dr. Grossman has performed thousands of Fat Transfer procedures with much higher satisfaction rate as compared to patients who have had face lifts alone done elsewhere.
Today we have hundreds of patients every year who seek to have Fat Transfer after they had a Facelift elsewhere, understanding the concept and desiring more natural and longer lasting results.
