Tehran Channel, a state-run television broadcast company has instated a ban on all actors and actresses who have undergone cosmetic or plastic surgery. The ISNA agency claims that the ban will be put in place in order to prevent a pandemic of plastic surgery among actors and actresses. Yet, is a plastic surgery pandemic in Iran likely?

According to the BBC, Iran is one of the leading countries for nose jobs in the world. Since the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Iranian women have been known to receive quite a bit of plastic surgery.

Yet, how do Iran’s nose job rates really compare to the U.S.? In 2011, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, as reported by The Guardian about 240,000 thousand individuals underwent nose jobs in the U.S. How does this stack up to Iran? The Guardian reports that over 200,000 Iranian women had a nose job to reduce their nose size or to alter the direction in which the nose points.

Iranian women choose to undergo surgery for a variety of reasons, but one woman, according to ynetnews, suggested that women undergo the procedure in protest of Iran’s restrictive hijab laws. Because the hijab doesn’t allow women to display their hair, some women opt for a nose job to enhance their facial features.

It seems that Iran and the U.S. have very similar nose job rates. Individuals may choose to undergo a nose job, or rhinoplasty for a variety of reasons. The procedure can radically alter a person’s appearance, with the result being increased self-esteem and overall life satisfaction.

However, rhinoplasty is one of the more challenging of all plastic surgery procedures. A poorly executed surgery can lead to deformity or worse, so it is important to seek a skilled plastic surgeon to perform the procedure. It is also very important that patients convey their goals and expectations to their plastic surgeon to ensure the best outcome for the procedure. A plastic surgeon is like a sculptor. A good one will be able to reshape the nose in a beautiful way. An inexperienced one may not produce the results an individual seeks. It is also important to note that because facial structures vary, different size and style noses suit certain people better than others. A skilled plastic surgeon can evaluate aesthetic goals and help determine what shape and size nose is best for each patient.

Ultimately, the goal of any plastic surgery is to create a natural look. A skilled surgeon will reshape the nose without removing excess internal physical structure and support. The nose is the most noticed facial feature, so many women and men opt to perform the procedure.

So, will Iran television suffer from a dearth of actors as a result of the cosmetic surgery ban? One member or Iranian parliament seemed concerned that familiar actors may not appear on television as often due to the ban. Surely, if a plastic surgery ban were put in place in the U.S., we’d see a definite decrease in the acting population. The roster of actors and celebrities who have undergone plastic surgery includes: Jennifer Anniston, Kourtney Kardashian, Denise Richards, Heidi Montag, and Ashlee Simpson, among many others.

If you plan on undergoing plastic surgery, it is important to find a skilled surgeon to perform the work.
