In Touch Weekly repots that Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi may be fighting about Ellen’s desire to go under the knife. According to an insider who spoke to In Touch, Ellen supposedly expressed concern about wrinkles around her eyes. She had intended to get plastic surgery to correct the problem while The Ellen DeGeneres Show was on summer hiatus, but according to the report, De Rossi managed to talk Ellen out of getting facial plastic surgery.

According to an insider, de Rossi was concerned that Ellen would be put under increased media scrutiny if she decided to undergo plastic surgery during her show’s hiatus. (De Rossi has experienced some serious scrutiny in the media over her evolving look.) In 2013, US Weekly reported that fans of Arrested Development were speculating about whether de Rossi had undergone plastic surgery. Plastic surgeons and fans alike speculated that she had had rhinoplasty, a brow lift, and Botox.

DeGeneres has been married to de Rossi since 2008, but there have been several reports about fights and spats throughout the course of their relationship. Despite the media reports, de Rossi has expressed her happiness within the marriage and told the media that there is “no drama.” She explained that she and Ellen support one another, regardless of their goals.

So, is de Rossi preventing Ellen from going under the knife? Or is the media firestorm churning another rumor mill? We probably will never know.

Whatever Ellen chooses to do, one thing is clear: plastic surgery is a very personal decision. Every person needs to weigh their own expectations, goals, and desires before choosing to undergo a face lift, brow lift, or even something as simple as Botox.

Yet, many individuals choose to involve family in the decision making process. Loved ones can often help individuals who are considering plastic surgery. Speaking to loved ones about the decision can offer a good sounding board and help those considering surgery articulate their reasons. Spousal support during and after the surgical process can also help patients during recovery. Individuals weighing whether to have plastic surgery also sometimes feel that family knows them best and can best help them review their reasons.

Some personal questions individuals can ask themselves are:

What are my reasons for wanting surgery? What do I want to change?

How long have I considered undergoing the procedure?

Are there benefits of waiting?

What are my expectations?

Speaking to family members who care can help individuals make an informed decision. Additionally, consulting with a skilled plastic surgeon can also provide patients with the information they need to make an informed choice.
